Sigtuna is the closest town to Arlanda — about 15 minutes away — which makes it the practical choice for an overnight before a dawn flight, and a genuinely lovely one for an unplanned afternoon.

With five or more hours between flights, Sigtuna is close enough to visit properly: a wooden main street founded in the 970s, rune stones in the churchyards and a jetty on Lake Mälaren. We can hold the return pickup to a time that leaves a comfortable margin before check-in.
