Taxi from Arlanda Airport to the Grand Hôtel, Stockholm

The Grand Hôtel stands on Södra Blasieholmshamnen, on the quay looking across the water at the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan. From Arlanda it is roughly 40 km and 40–50 minutes by road, and the last few hundred metres are the part worth planning: the entrance faces a waterfront street in a dense part of the city centre.

Where the car actually stops

Blasieholmen is a small peninsula reached from Nybroplan or past the National Museum, and the hotel's main entrance sits on the quay itself. There is a short forecourt where cars set down; it is shared with hotel traffic and coaches, so on busy afternoons a driver may stop a few metres along the quay rather than directly at the doors.

If someone in the party has limited mobility or you are travelling with several large cases, say so when you request the transfer and we ask the driver to hold at the entrance and help with luggage rather than setting down at the first free space.

Getting your bearings on arrival

Standing at the entrance, the water in front of you is Strömmen. Across it are the Royal Palace and the rooftops of Gamla Stan; to your right, along the quay, are the National Museum and the bridge over to Skeppsholmen. The Royal Dramatic Theatre and Nybroplan are a couple of minutes' walk in the other direction.

Almost everything visitors come to central Stockholm for is walkable from here: Gamla Stan across the bridge in about ten minutes, Kungsträdgården and the Norrmalm shopping streets in five, and the Skeppsholmen and Djurgården museums a short walk or a boat ride away.

Arriving from the airport

There is no direct rail link to Blasieholmen. Coming by train from Arlanda means arriving at Central Station and then covering the final 1.5 km — a fifteen to twenty minute walk with luggage, or a short connecting ride. A car from the terminal to the quay removes that last leg, which is the main reason guests pre-book it.

Send your flight number with the request. The driver meets you inside the arrivals hall after baggage reclaim, and the arrival is tracked, so a delayed flight moves the pickup rather than cancelling it.

Departures and onward journeys

For the return, pickup from the quayside entrance is timed backwards from your check-in deadline. Blasieholmen is quiet in the early morning, so pre-dawn departures out to Arlanda are usually the most predictable drive of the day.

Guests often continue somewhere else during their stay: the cruise berths at Stadsgården and Skeppsbron are minutes away by car, Stockholm Waterfront and the congress venues sit beside Central Station, and Uppsala or Sigtuna are comfortable half-day trips north.

Questions about this journey

How long does it take to reach the Grand Hôtel from Arlanda?

Normally 40–50 minutes of driving for the roughly 40 km, with the final approach through the city centre being the variable part. Weekday afternoons can add 20 minutes or more.

Can a taxi stop directly at the hotel entrance?

Usually yes — there is a set-down area on the quay outside the entrance. When it is occupied, drivers stop a short distance along Södra Blasieholmshamnen instead. Tell us in advance if you need the doors themselves.

Is the Grand Hôtel walkable from Stockholm Central Station?

It is about 1.5 km, so fifteen to twenty minutes on foot. That is pleasant without luggage and less so with checked bags, which is why many guests take a car for the last leg after the Arlanda Express.

Is the hotel close to Gamla Stan?

Yes. Gamla Stan is directly across the water and about a ten-minute walk over the bridge past the Royal Palace.
